A cleanse is a period when your body works to rid itself of toxins.  The organs in your body work synergistically as a whole, and therefore, it makes sense to take a holistic approach to cleansing.  Whether you’re fasting, doing a juice cleanse, or following a specific diet that eliminates certain foods, it’s important you consider all aspects of your body to ensure you’re in the right state to reap the most benefits from the process. 

Aside from diet, there are a number of things you can do to allow your body to go through more thorough purification.  During this time of deep cleansing, your body will eliminate waste and your skin’s complexion will improve significantly.

To enhance your detox and get clearer skin, here’s a list of things you can include as part of your cleanse.  Try and incorporate some (or all) of these tips for an additional boost to your cleansing practice.

10 Ways to Enhance Your Cleanse

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a practice in alternative medicine that involves swishing oil inside your mouth to extract impurities, kill bacteria, and improve oral health.  It is said that toxins get into your bloodstream through your gums.  By practicing oil pulling, you can prevent those toxins from entering your system.  Oil pulling has been proven effective at treating strep, gingivitis, and halitosis (a.k.a. bad breath).

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing involves using a dry brush to scrub and massage your skin prior to showering or bathing.  This technique improves blood circulation and helps your body shed dead skin cells.  Other benefits include improved digestion, reduced stress, and stimulation of the lymphatic drainage system.

Infrared Sauna

Infrared sauna therapy causes your blood vessels dilate which improves circulation.  Increased blood flow allows oxygen & nutrients to be delivered to your skin and assists your body in eliminating waste products.

Magnesium Bath

Magnesium is a vital mineral that’s often lacking in our diet.  It is, however, easily absorbed by your skin which is why a magnesium bath is a great way to supplement your intake.  It helps with muscle relaxation and nervous system regulation.  Magnesium also increases skin cell membrane permeability which allows for toxins to be released and escape from your body.

Exercise

Exercise is not only beneficial for your overall health; it also assists your body with cleansing and detoxification.  Through increased blood circulation and sweat, your body can eliminate toxins and harmful waste more efficiently.  As an added bonus, exercise improves your mood and may help you lose weight.
