Why You Need to Start Using Facial Oils + Benefits for All Skin Types!

If you’re new to the whole facial oil game, then, girl, you’ve got to catch up!  Facial oils are getting all the hype these days – and for a reason!  They’re simply amazing for your skin’s health!

Facials oils are by no means a novel skincare treatment; heck Cleopatra and the geishas of olden days used facial oils in their skincare routines, long before we’ve made them popular again.

So it’s time to get the lowdown!

Are facial oils beneficial for every skin type?

How Every Skin Type Can Benefit From Facial Oil

The great news is that whether you’ve got dry skin, oily skin, acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, or mature skin, facial oil can complement your skincare routine!

Dry Skin

It’s no surprise that the most common use of facial oil is on dry skin.  Dry skin is often the result of a weak or damaged lipid barrier.  Facial oils work by strengthening and restoring your skin’s lipid barrier.  This barrier is what seals in moisture and prevents water from evaporating from your skin.

Oily Skin

While people with oily skin tend to stay away from facial oil, they’re the ones that should actually be incorporating facial oil into their skincare routines!  If you’re an oily-skinned gal, it’s a possible sign that your skin is lacking oil.

Excessive face washing or abrasive mechanical exfoliation can strip your skin of its natural oils and exacerbate it.  When those oils are stripped away, your body goes into defense mode. To help compensate for the loss, your skin produces excess sebum. Facial oils benefit oily skin by regulating lipid production & improving complexion.

Acne-Prone Skin

Acne-prone skin can be challenging to deal with.  When it comes to facial oils, choose ones that are non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).  Facial oils can do wonders for acne-prone skin too!

Studies show that acne-prone individuals may actually be deficient in essential fatty acids (EFAs).  The topical use of facial oils containing EFAs can help correct this imbalance and reduce the frequency of acne breakouts.

Marula oil is the perfect choice for acne-prone skin. It’s non-comedogenic, rich in EFAs (Omegas 6 &9), and has anti-inflammatory properties!

Sensitive Skin

The best part about facial oils is that many of them are pure – meaning they’re only one ingredient!  If you have sensitive skin, this makes it easy for you to find an oil that works for your skin.  No more reading through a long list of ingredients, trying to figure out which one is aggravating your skin!

Always opt for 100% pure facial oils rather than oil blends and avoid formulas containing essential oils, which may trigger skin irritation.  Marula oil is a great one to use!  It’s pure, lightweight, absorbs quickly, and won’t make your skin greasy.

Mature Skin

As you age, your skin loses elasticity.  Facial oils are beneficial for mature skin because they have antioxidant properties and help slow down the aging process.  They also boost collagen production for increased skin elasticity.
