Look Your Best this Season: Holiday Skincare Dos and Don’ts
8 days till Christmas, but who’s counting…? 😉 Are you ready for the festivities?
Now if you’re like most people around this time of year, you’re likely a stress case; frantically running around the city doing some last minute shopping, menu planning, house cleaning, and so on.
So when it comes to skincare, that’s probably the last thing on your mind, right?!
To help you navigate the next few weeks, we’ve compiled a short list of skincare DOs and DON’Ts so you can still look your best during this hectic holiday season!
Holiday Skincare Tips
Don’t neglect your skincare routine. Yes, you are busy, but so is everyone else! That’s not a good excuse to quit your skincare routine. Your skin is a delicate organ that needs to be tended to on-the-daily!
Don’t wear your makeup to bed. That’s a given, but once in awhile, it happens – you have one too many (alcoholic) bevies, and then you end up passing out before removing your makeup. You’ve been there. We’ve all been there! 😛
Do carry a water bottle with you at all times. With all the boozy drinks going around during the holiday season, it doesn’t hurt to have water nearby.
Try and drink as much water as possible to:
a) treat hangovers
b) keep your skin hydrated.
Do stash hand sanitizer in your bag. Holidays = social gatherings galore! There’ll be hand-shaking and hugging and lots of germ-sharing. Next thing you know, those germ-y hands come into contact with your face and you end up with a nasty skin break out! No thank you.
Don’t skimp out on sleep. Those late nights spent at work Christmas parties and ugly sweater parties will catch up to you! Avoid those under-eye bags and dark circles. Those won’t look cute in Christmas family photos! You need that beauty sleep, girl.
Do avoid consuming excess sweets. Eating all those sweets during the holidays can be tempting, but it’s just not worth it! Why, you ask? The reason you want to avoid eating sugary foods is because sugar breaks down the collagen in your skin. Collagen is the glue, the mortar if you will, that holds your skin in together and keeps it firm and taut. Once this breaks down, your skin starts to sag and wrinkles appear.
Do manage your stress. Whether it’s meditating, doing yoga, or simply getting some alone time, it’s important you set aside time to wind down. The holiday season can be really taxing on your body. Your immune system may become compromised and your skin might start to look dull if you’re under constant stress. Do what feels right for your body. Book a massage, a facial, a manicure, a pedicure, whatever you need to allow your body to relax and recharge. Self care is especially important during the holidays when things are always go-go-go.
Do up your skincare game! Invest in a good night cream to help repair any damage your skin may have sustained during the past year, or the past weekend for that matter. 😉
Implement a nourishing face oil into your skincare routine. The winter months can be harsh on your skin and it needs all the help it can get, especially around the holidays! Face oil is great at restoring your skin’s lipid barrier. This barrier is what protects your skin against external elements such as cold, dry air.
Okay ladies, hopefully these tips help you this holiday season!
