5 Reasons You Should Never Lather Your Face with a Bar of Soap!
Okay, so you’re away on vacation and you realize you’ve forgotten to pack your face cleanser. So what do you do? You unwrap that tiny bar of soap provided by your hotel, wet it, lather it between your hands, and then start smearing the foam all over your face!
Who’s been there? *Raises hand*
Relax.
It happens to the best of us, however, you should try and avoid doing this at all cost! Here’s why.
5 Reasons You Should Never Lather Your Face with a Bar of Soap!
1. Disturbs Your Skin’s pH Balance
First of all, it’s important to note that your skin’s pH sits between a 4.6-5.5 pH, making it slightly acidic. Bars of soap contain binders that have a higher pH than your skin does. Most bars of soap are around a pH of 9-10, making them alkaline. Using a bar of soap on your skin will disrupt your skin’s delicate pH balance and cause your skin to become very dry.
2. Dehydrates Your Skin
As mentioned earlier, bars of soap are alkaline; therefore they are extremely harsh on your tender facial skin. Using a bar of soap is comparable to using detergent on your face! Yikes!
3. Makes Your Skin Break Out
When your skin is robbed of its moisture, its natural response is to start producing more sebum (oil). Excess oils can trap dirt along with it and clog your pores. And you know what that leads to – acne!
4. Makes Your Skin More Vulnerable to Bacteria
Your skin has a very thin, slightly acidic film on its surface, called the acid mantle, which helps protect your body against harmful bacteria. When you use harsh soaps, this film breaks down and allows bacteria to get into your body. This can have devastating effects on your health.
5. Triggers Skin Sensitivities/Allergies
Bars of soap oftentimes contain chemical fragrances; and while they may ‘smell nice’, they aren’t so nice to your skin. Overtime your skin may become sensitized, and more prone to allergic reactions.
So please, ladies and gents, avoid using those irritating bars of soap on your delicate facial skin!
Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser such as this coconut facial cleansing milk.
