What is Rose Water?

Rose water is a liquid composed of rose petals + water.  It is obtained from the steam distillation of rose petals.

Roses have been used since ancient times for medicinal, nutritional, and cosmetic uses.

Rose Water’s Beneficial Properties

Rose water has numerous beneficial properties, both medicinal and nutritional, which is why it is such a wonderful addition to any beauty routine!

Antioxidant

Roses contain a high concentration of phenolic compounds which help fight free radical damage caused by the sun’s UV rays.  Phenolic compounds are thought to also have anti-cancer properties.

Antimicrobial/Antiseptic

Rose water has antimicrobial/antiseptic properties which are beneficial at preventing and treating skin infections.

Anti-inflammatory

The anti-inflammatory properties of rose water can help fight skin redness and soothe the skin.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C promotes collagen synthesis which is essential for skin elasticity and wrinkle prevention.

pH Balancing

Rose water has a pH of 5.0-5.5, which is similar to your skin’s natural pH levels of 4.5-5.5.  Unfortunately, many beauty products have a pH of 6.0-7.5, which can throw your skin’s pH out of balance.  Rose water can help level out your skin’s pH levels and restore that delicate balance.

Mild Astringent

Rose water has mild astringent properties which can help tighten pores and firm up the skin.

Hydrating

Rose water improves skin barrier function and reduces moisture loss.

Rose Water Uses for Skin + Hair

Remove Makeup

Simply add a few drops of coconut oil to your rose water.  Soak a cotton round into the solution for the ultimate makeup removing pads that won’t dry out your skin!

Tone Your Skin

Due to its astringent and pH-balancing properties, rose water makes for the best face toner!  Just soak a cotton ball with rose water and dab onto your skin after cleansing!

Hydrate and Refresh!

Looking for a mid-day pick-me-up?  Fill up a spray bottle with rose water.  Mist the floral essence onto your face and feel invigorated!

Condition Hair

Use rose water as a final rinse during your hair wash to nourish and moisturize your locks and reduce frizz.

Heal Wounds

Rinse wounds with rose water to prevent infection and help speed up wound healing.

Treat Skin Disorders

Acne, dermatitis, eczema, rosacea can all benefit from rose water’s anti-inflammatory properties. Use a spray bottle to mist your skin with rose water after cleansing to help reduce redness and to soothe the skin.
