Premature Aging: Everyday Bad Habits That Give You Wrinkles
It’s true that you cannot run away from aging itself, however, you can do your part to prevent *premature* aging! And while it’s not always obvious, certain everyday habits can actually promote the formation of wrinkles and in turn make you appear much older than your chronological age.
7 Everyday Habits That Cause Wrinkles
1. Sleeping On Your Stomach
If you’re a stomach sleeper, sorry – this information may be unwelcome! When you sleep on your stomach you are forced to rest your face on your pillow. The weight of your head applies constant pressure against your skin and creates indentations on your face (AKA sleep marks). Over time, these indentations can become permanent wrinkles. Not only that; stomach sleeping prevents fluids from draining out/away from your face. That excess fluid retention is what gives you that puffy-eyed morning look!
2. Rubbing Your Eyes
The skin around your eyes is extremely delicate. The constant tugging and pulling of your skin can cause the collagen in your skin to break down. This damages your skin’s framework and can cause your skin to become loose, saggy, and wrinkled.
3. Applying Eye Makeup
Have you ever paid attention to the facial expression you make when you apply eye makeup? It’s likely that you raise your brows when you brush on your mascara. Every time you make that ‘face’, you are causing your forehead skin to crease. As time goes on, you may notice your forehead lines becoming more prominent and your wrinkles getting deeper.
4. Sipping Drinks Through A Straw
Sipping drinks through straws may keep your teeth whiter, longer, but won’t prevent those wrinkles from forming around your lips!! Pursing your lips is another facial movement that can, overtime, cause your skin to wrinkle faster.
5. Forgetting To Wear Your Sunglasses
Squinting and frowning when it’s sunny or bright outside is another habitual thing that you may do without realizing it can lead to wrinkled skin.
6. Staring At Your Tech Device(s)
The endless scrolling through your social media feed on your tablet or phone can become another source of unwanted wrinkles. When your head is tilted downward, neck folds appear. Those folds can eventually become – you’ve guessed it – wrinkles!
7. Supporting Your Head/Face With Your Hands
And last, but not least, there’s this thing you do when your head feels heavier than the weight of the world some days. That’s supporting your head and face with your hands! Whether you’ve noticed or not, this does make your skin crease in ways it normally wouldn’t. This is yet another habit that must be done away with STAT!
