How To Appear More Awake Than You Actually Feel!

Are you running on a few hours of sleep and looking just plain run-down? No problem!
Use these simple beauty hacks to appear more awake than you actually feel!

Line Your Water Line

First things first! Always line your water line. But wait! Don’t use just any eyeliner. A white eyeliner will make the white of your eyes look whiter, brighter and bigger, so go for that one!

Avoid Black and Brown Eyeliner

Dark eyeliners can make your eyes appear more dark and tired (than they already are)! A blue eyeliner is a great choice to bring out the white of your eyes. This is a simple way to give the illusion you’ve had a great night’s sleep. 

Choose the Right Eyeshadow Shade

Certain colors just pair better with your specific eye color and can make the world of a difference when it comes to making your eyes pop!

Here’s a quick guide:

Blue Eyes: Pink, Silver, Copper, Gold, Taupe

Green Eyes: Mauve, Apricot, Grey, Copper, Brown

Brown Eyes: Purple, Peach, Copper, Gold

Hazel Eyes: Purple, Pink, Gold, Taupe

Shape Your Brows

Nothing clutters your eye area like an unruly brow! It’s time you head to your esthetician for an eye-opening treatment – AKA an eyebrow waxing treatment!

Curl or Lift Your Lashes

Your eyes not only look more alive when your lashes are lifted or curled; they also look bigger! And bigger eyes always look more “awake”!

You can curl your lashes using a simple eyelash curler, or opt for the more popular lash lift treatment performed at your local spa or salon.

Note: If you’re curling your lashes using an eyelash curler, do so before applying mascara!

Apply Some Mascara

Mascara is the age old solution to make your eyes look bigger and brighter! It’s so simple, yet effective!

Add Some Shimmer

Make the light your best friend! By applying a dab of white shimmery shadow on your tear ducts, you are reflecting light, meaning you will brighten up that dark, tired area of your face! It’s a cool trick and definitely lives up to the hype!

Use Concealer

This is no secret, but is always a wonderful way to help fix a dark under-eye area! Use a concealer with a pink or yellow undertone and set it with a light translucent powder.

Apply Cool Tea Bags

To reduce any puffiness, steep a couple caffeinated tea bags. Squeeze out the water and refrigerate them for 15-20 minutes until they’ve cooled down. Then take them out and place them over your eyes while you’re lying down. After 5 minutes, remove them and notice the decreased swelling!

Drink More Water

Drinking water ensures you’re staying hydrated. There’s nothing that makes you look more tired than being tired AND dehydrated at the same time! You need all the help you can get at this point!

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine

Alcohol and caffeine are diuretics, meaning they dehydrate you! You want to make sure your skin stays hydrated, especially when you’re tired. Dehydration can make your skin look dull and that will make you look even moretired!

Eat Carrots

Carrots contain beta carotene, which gets converted to Vitamin A in your body. Vitamin A is what keeps your eyes healthy. Healthy eyes look vibrant and more “awake”.

Have a Power Nap!

It all comes down to this. Sleep is the number one thing you can do to look your best! After all, this is the time your body takes to rest, nourish, and repair itself. You can only get so far without much sleep. Even a short 20 minute nap can help you look and feel more refreshed to get you through the rest of your day!
