Get Fuller Lips Without Lip Filler | Lip Plumping Makeup Hacks
So you want that Angelina Jolie pout without having to dig deep into your pocket book or enduring the sting of a syringe delivering filler into your lips? Well, you’re in luck!
There are ways to create the appearance of fuller lips without breaking the bank or your skin!
Here are some simple steps to follow if you want to give the illusion of having fuller lips.
Create The Illusion of Plump(er) Lips
Stimulate Blood Flow
To prep, begin by encouraging blood flow to your lips. Do this by exfoliating your lips using a natural sugar scrub. You can make your own scrub by mixing equal parts coconut oil and raw sugar together and applying the mixture directly onto your lips. Using a circular motion, rub the mixture on your lips until a rosy glow is attained.
Bonus Tip: Certain essential oils (i.e. cinnamon, clove, peppermint, & capsicum) stimulate blood flow and cause a slight swelling of the skin. When diluted in coconut oil (or other carrier oil), these essential oils can be safely applied directly to the lips. Try adding a couple drops of essential oil in your next lip scrub concoction. The swelling and flushing is only temporary, so don’t worry! This method is great at achieving that enviable plump lip, without surgery or fillers!
Prime Your Lips
Starting with a blank canvas will help you create that illusion of a perfect plump pout! Begin by dabbing some foundation onto your lips, going a little past your lip line. Because you’ve covered up your natural lip line, you’ll now be able to extend your lip liner beyond your lip line for that illusion of a larger lip!
Line Things Up
Lip liner can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It’s all in the application method! First, you want to avoid that 90’s look by choosing the right shade. A lip pencil should be close to your natural lip color. Line your lips using a sketching motion. You can go just outside your natural lip line to create a larger lip, but don’t outline the entire perimeter of your lips! Only over- line your cupid’s bow and the fullest part of your bottom lip. Otherwise, you’ll end up looking like you have clown lips.
Finish by shading in your lips with your lip pencil.
Keep it Light
Dark shades of lipstick flatten the look of your lips and make them appear smaller. To create the appearance of larger lips, choose a shade that is only slightly darker than your natural lip color (rose, berry, or caramel shades – whichever is closest to your natural skin tone).
Makeup Artist Tip: Use two shades of lipstick to create a sort of contoured effect. Use a lighter shade* for the center of your bottom lip, and a darker shade everywhere else! Blend colors using a lip brush for a seamless look.
*for extra-plumping effect, use a light shimmery shade
Control the Light
If you want to really make a difference, you need to let lighting do its magic! Shimmer reflects light, accentuating features, while darkness casts shadows and adds depth.
To get the light working in your favor, try adding a shimmery highlighting powder above your cupid’s bow to make your top lip pop! And to make your bottom lip appear fuller, add a light dusting of bronzer below your lower lip along its fullest part.
By using these two simple makeup tricks, you can control the light naturally and create the illusion of having larger, plumper lips.
