Microneedling – An Effective Anti-aging Treatment!
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a procedure that involves the use of very fine needles to puncture tiny (invisible) holes all over your skin, causing a controlled injury and triggering your body’s own natural skin repair mechanism. This procedure stimulates the production of collagen – a type of protein that mends and builds the connective tissue in your skin.
What Tool is Used for Microneedling?
A derma roller is the tool used when performing a microneedling treatment. A derma roller is a hand-held device with an arm connecting to a cylindrical drum that has hundreds of tiny needles on it. Think of it as a miniature paint roller, but studded with needles! The needles range from 0.25-3.0mm in length and each size is used for a specific purpose.
Needle Lengths
0.25mm – This length is the least invasive needle size. Because it cannot reach the dermis (deeper layers of your skin), it’s not very effective at inducing collagen production. It’s typically only used to improve blood circulation and enhance the absorption of skincare products. This length is safe for at-home use.
0.50mm – This length of needle is long enough to cause minor injury to your skin and trigger some collagen growth. It is used to treat shallow or superficial skin damage.
0.75-1.0mm – This is the ideal length of needle used to treat acne damage, fine wrinkles, scars, and hyper pigmentation. These needles penetrate the deeper layers of your skin, generating moderate amounts of collagen necessary for repairing and regenerating new cells.
1.5-3.0mm – WARNING: This is not an at-home treatment! You should always go see a trained professional to have this invasive treatment done. If performed incorrectly, it could result in serious infection or even cause further skin damage. These super long needles are extremely effective at increasing collagen production and are used for treating very deep scars, wrinkles & stretch marks.
What are the Benefits of Microneedling?
Prevent Premature Aging
Increased collagen production will ensure your skin maintains its elasticity and its firmness!
Shrink Pores
Increased collagen levels means that the skin surrounding your pores will be nice and plump, thus giving the appearance of smaller pores. AMAZING!
Treat Acne Scars
Collagen is an amazing protein! It is capable of repairing acne-damaged skin and giving you the confidence to live in your own skin again!
Diminish Hyper Pigmentation
Hyper pigmentation (age spots, liver spots, freckles, sun spots – whatever you want to call them) can make you feel insecure about your appearance. Well, the great new is, after a few microneedling treatments, it’s possible for your skin to shed its top layer of skin which reduces or even eliminates the appearance of dark, blotchy patches of skin!
Improve the Appearance of Stretch Marks
Yes, it’s possible to treat even the most common skin concern of all – STRETCH MARKS! Everybody has them, but now, you can do something about it.
Treat Deep Wrinkles or Scars
The more invasive (longer) needles are used to stimulate collagen production in the deepest layers of your skin, offering the most effective results for these more advanced matters.
