Nightly Skincare Rituals You Should Never Skip!
Having a glowing complexion doesn’t happen by accident. It happens over time and through repetition of a consistent routine. Following a regular plan or ritual will help you gain control of your skin’s health.
These simple nightly activities will help you reach your ultimate #skingoals!
Supplement
There are many supplements you can take that will help improve your skin’s health and overall appearance.
Collagen has become increasingly popular since you can easily add its powdered form to any drink or shake. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is the main component of your skin. Adding collagen to your diet will help maintain your skin’s elasticity and improve your skin’s complexion.
Niacin, also known as Vitamin B3, is another supplement that can help you achieve glowing skin. Niacin is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant. Niacin is a precursor to two coenzymes involved in cellular metabolism and DNA repair. This potent vitamin has also been shown to promote REM sleep and even treat insomnia!
Double Cleanse
Double cleansing is an ancient Japanese skin cleansing method that involves using an oil-based cleanser to remove oily make-up & excess sebum, and then following up using a water-based face wash to remove any remaining bacteria and grime. It’s especially important to perform this type of deep cleansing at bedtime. Double cleansing ensures a deep clean so that your skin can be in its best condition to perform repair & renewal while you sleep.
After cleansing, remember to moisturize your skin with your favorite night cream.
Bathe
Being able to decompress and relieve stress at the end of a long day is crucial for your well-being. Any activity that will help you unwind will be beneficial to your health.
Remember, excess stress can interfere with sleep, which can interfere with hormones, which can in turn affect your skin.
A great way to enjoy your bath is by adding Epsom salts and a few drops of essential oil (lavender is perfect to enhance relaxation).
Slather Up
After a nice hot bath, don’t forget to slather on your favorite body butter. Shea butter is wonderful at sealing in moisture. To up the ante, you can always layer on a thick coat of body butter onto your hands and feet and wear socks and gloves to keep the moisture locked in overnight!
Soothe
A warm drink before bedtime can help you taper off as bedtime approaches. A current trendy beverage is the turmeric latte, often known as “golden milk” in India. Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory that helps soothe irritated skin and acts as a powerful antioxidant to improve your skin’s complexion.
Dim Lights
Getting adequate sleep is often the hardest thing to accomplish. Anything that can help you get to sleep faster and help you stay asleep longer is worth trying. Reducing your exposure to light (especially blue light) at nighttime can do just that! Melatonin, aka the sleep hormone, is produced at nighttime and light inhibits its production. Dimming the lights and avoiding watching television and using your laptop a few hours before bed is helpful to improve your sleep.
Lie on Your Back
Always sleep on your back! This cannot be stressed enough! Side sleepers and tummy sleepers wake up with sleep lines because their skin is pressed up against their pillows all night long! Over time, this repeated creasing can become permanent and cause premature wrinkling of your skin. Sleeping on your back ensures your skin stays crinkle-free.
You’re welcome for this tip!
Meditate/Turn on White Noise
If your mind cannot shut off at night, try downloading a meditation application on your phone. White noise applications are also available for download. Either of these are great options to help your body become relaxed and fall asleep.
As you can see, sleep is truly the number one way to maintain your health. And a healthy body translates into healthy skin!
