Onion Sock Detox Trend – What’s the Hype About?

Detox trends are all the rage right now, and this one tops them all!  The good ol’ onion sock detox is the latest craze.  It involves placing a slice of raw onion on the sole of each foot, then putting socks on to secure them in place, and leaving them on overnight.  So what’s the logic behind all of this?

Onions contain organic sulfur compounds that act as a natural chelating agent.  The idea of putting the onion on the surface of the skin, rather than ingesting it, is to allow the onion’s chelating agent (sulfur) to by-pass the digestive tract and be absorbed by your body more rapidly.  Once the sulfur compounds enter your body, they can start to absorb the heavy metals and cleanse your body naturally.

Okay, so now as to whether or not there is truth behind this detox theory, we say, there is no harm in trying it.  And even if the positive results are simply a placebo effect, it’s not a bad thing!  AND if you’re a skeptic, then stick to eating onions instead.

  1. Anti-Aging

    Ingested: Onion included in your daily diet

    The quercetin found in onions have antioxidant properties which prevent free radical damage that is responsible for causing premature aging of your skin.

    The anti-bacterial qualities of onions help protect your skin from bacteria that often cause acne break-outs.

  3. Treating Stings and Bug Bites

    Applied topically: Onion slice applied to affected area
